HOLLYWOOD CARNIVAL INFORMATION

ARRIVAL: Please arrive around 9:30am. The Parade starts at 10:30am. We are officially the last band in the carnival on the road closing the show!! Therefore, the time that we start to move will be a bit later than 10:30am.

START POINT LOCATION: We will be located at (or close to) the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Western Ave.

PARKING: We suggest parking in one of the parking lots (most are $10 for the day) located around the Hollywood Carnival Culture Village, which is located at: 6800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028

The Culture Village is located at the END of the carnival route, so if you park there in the morning you will have to get transportation to the beginning of the route, which is where the Winery Mas truck and family will be.

MORNING SHUTTLE 7am – 10:30am: If you decide to park in the area of the Culture Village, the Hollywood Carnival has organized 2 complimentary shuttles to take people from the Culture Village area to the starting-point location of the parade. The shuttle service will be operating for 7:00am to 10:30am. The most practical option for all participants will be to park on or around Hollywood Blvd and Highland Ave (carnival Village area), the shuttle bus will pick up participants IN FRONT the carnival village area on Hollywood Blvd and transport them to the start of the parade.

On the morning of the Hollywood Carnival the city of Los Angeles blocks off multiple streets in Hollywood to cater to the carnival. As a result, there is a lot of traffic in the Hollywood area that morning, therefore, please prepare your arrival timing for those delays.

HOLLYWOOD CARNIVAL WRISTBANDS: We will be distributing the Hollywood Carnival wristbands from the Winery Mas truck on the morning of carnival. A Winery Mas team member will have a list of all the names of everyone in the band to give each of you your wristband. You CANNOT pick up a wristband for someone else. EACH person must be present to pick up their own wristband. Please have your ID ready to show the team member distributing the wristbands.

ALL our team members will be in PURPLE t-shirts, except for our Road Manager who will be in costume.

Your Winery Mas wristband is gold and provides you access to Winery Mas and it’s amenities.

3 IMPORTANT RULES:

• Remember, drinking is prohibited by the Hollywood Carnival because it is illegal. NO open red cups or any open containers should be brought with you. We have provided Winery Mas masqueraders with water bottles to put your own personal liquids in. Please use them wisely. 🙂 If you are in a band section, please be sure to bring a closed bottle or container for your liquids.
• DO NOT climb on the freeway overpass fences. It is VERY dangerous and the city does not want us on any of the fences as we go down the road. Stay on the street please!
• Stay 3 feet away from the truck wheels at ALL times. We want you to be safe while having fun. If you see another person too close to the wheels please remind them to keep a safe distance.

“CROSSING THE STAGE” & JUDGING POINT: Towards the end of the carnival route there is an area (known as “the stage”) where we will be performing for the crowd and judges! Yes, this is also a competition amongst all the carnival bands. Our presentation is 2 minutes long and you are part of it!! Here is what will happen:

• A few blocks before the stage area, we will announce to everyone that you need to get ready to “cross the stage.”
• When we arrive, we will have dancers that will present a 45 second choreographed performance while the rest of the band waits.
• At the end of their performance the MC on the truck will say to the whole band, “Start to run, start to run…” which will be your queue to run to the stage together and start dancing!! There will be no separation of sections since many people have friends and family in multiple sections and they want to experience “crossing the stage” together! Our goal is to have a blast out there with a variety of colors being presented.

* Side note: The artistic concept for crossing the stage coincides with our theme “Birth of a Kingdom.” When the band crosses the stage together, it represents many Kingdoms coming together to celebrate the victory of the battle that saved the kidnapped princess. CARNIVAL QUEEN: We will have a 20 foot wide 14 foot high Carnival Queen Costume leading the band. It is designed so that masqueraders can sit on it like a Royal Throne while another masquerader pulls them. We encourage our masqueraders to take turns sitting on the Carnival Queen as we go down the road. In videos and pictures that you post, please tag Winery Mas and use the hashtag #winerymas  We want you to have fun and share our Carnival Queen during the carnival.

CULTURE VILLAGE SPECIAL ENTRANCE:  6832 Hawthorn Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028

At the end of the carnival, your Hollywood Carnival wristband will grant you access to the Culture Village, where there will be a live performance and food vendors. There is a special entrance ONLY for Hollywood Carnival masqueraders. The entrance is located at the back of the Culture Village.

FOOD: Winery Mas does NOT provide food during carnival, however, in order to ensure that you still get access to amazing Caribbean food, we have coordinated with one of the Carnival Village food vendors called “Callaloo Express” for you to order in advance. JUNKYARD JOUVERT!!!: After carnival on Saturday night (Sunday morning 2am-sunrise), there will be the incredible “Junkyard Jouvert” created by DJ Foreigner, one of Winery Mas’ DJs.  The DJs will be playing from the Winery Mas Big Truck at the Jouvert!  ALL Winery Masqueraders wearing gold wristbands will receive discount access at the door: $10 before 3am. Time: 2am – sunrise

Location: 6223 South Manhattan Place, Los Angeles, CA

Dress Code: Old clothes that will get ruined! There will be paint and powder that will be splattered on everyone, therefore, whatever you wear will get ruined! Bring protective covers for your car seats (trash bags or plastic covers).
